Lion In The Sun

I've been busy working on my Save the Dates and getting our website ready to launch. I can't believe it's time to start doing these things already. It also has me pretty excited. Tonight Kara and I are going to an event in Brooklyn that I'm pretty excited about. See the details below and if you are an NYC bride who's attending. Look for us there.

"Be sure to join us July 30th (7-9pm) for a very special event. Lion in the Sun will be hosting its first-ever blogger event with Brooklyn’s own Vane Broussard of Brooklyn Bride! Come drink wine and browse the collections as we listen to Vane discuss the latest trends with a fellow special guest wedding blogger. Attendees will receive great discounts on future orders. Stay tuned, more details to come!
If interested in attending, please email shop@lioninthesunps.com and put “RSVP July 30 event” in the header." - from the Lion In The Sun website

The Heart of It All

Home is where the heart is. Pretty much literally here.
A possible graphic element from the most recent draft of our STD.
I kind of love it. We're both from Ohio... even thought we met in Miami ... and now live in NYC.
As always, only a sneak peak for now.

In case you forgot. I LOVE John Mayer and this video just makes me happy so I thought I'd pass it on to you. Who doesn't need a pick me up on a Monday?

Our Engagement Photos

Now that you know all about our amazing photographer Miss Corey Ann - you have to see our engagement photos! We had a great time taking them and getting to Corey. Well we had a great time getting to know Corey and I had a great time taking the photos. Zack warmed up to the idea after we were away from heckling tribe fans and in more casual clothes!

Corey took so many shots we love so I'll just give you a preivew here and then send you over to her blog to see the full entry.

One of my favs from the day. Ps the hanger string is edited out now :)
I wanted a pic on the stairs. I'm very happy with this shot!
I loved the texture of this flower plus I love my rings so this one has LOTS of love from me!
I love Zack's eyes in this one. He's so handsome, I really really love him!

So what do you think? Do you love them as much as I do? By the way if you leave love {comments} here be sure to also leave them on Corey's blog. We don't need to be greedy - share the love.

Choosing a Photographer {Part II}

Are you guys dying from suspense yet? I'm kidding- a little bit.

We ended up deciding to work with Corey Ann of Corey Ann Photography. She had several packages already established at different levels. However, we were torn between her top two packages, they both had elements I wanted but the top tier package I didn't think we would use. For example engagement photos and rehearsal dinner or a trash the dress session. With us coming in from out of town I just thought it would be too much to try and squeeze in. Corey worked with us to make sure the package we purchased was exactly what we wanted and her pricing was on target for what Zack said I was "allowed" to spend.

Some of the reasons I decided to book Corey: I loved the tones of her black and white images. We also clicked when we chatted on the phone, I could imagine going out for drinks with her or bonding over shoes! She also was highly reviewed by some local ladies who's blogs I've follow closely.

So enough about why I think she's so great, let me show you!

Oh and the last image ... is our Day of Coordinator and her husband... more on Miss Heidi to come!

Choosing a Photographer {Part 1}

Picking a photographer was not an easy task for Zack and I. It was probably my highest priority and possibly the lowest for him. We went home in May to look at venues and met up with Jaci Clark which helped him understand how much work a photographer actually puts into the big day. I loved Jaci, she is as fabulous as her work but we ultimately didn't end up working with her. Although, I have no doubts that she would be amazing to work with. If you are planning in Northeast Ohio - you should at the minimum give her a call.

When we came back from Ohio with a fresh perspective on our budget knowing what our venue and catering would cost. We also had decided to cut our budget for various personal reasons and some of things I thought would be shoe in's didn't turn out that way. I knew that I had to "break up" with Jaci and go back to the drawing board for photographers. This is of course the very polite blog friendly version of this story... I actually was a bridezilla. I fought with Zack and offered several bribes to try and get my way.

Anyway, back to the story ... I ruled out a few vendors based on their blogs and observing their styles. One person I thought had more of a love affair with the color yellow than I did, others each wedding looked the same, a few vendors were unresponsive, and lastly a few of them were too expensive.

With my new narrowed down list I started collecting information such as pricing and packages. From there I conducting phone interviews, as our wedding is in Ohio and we are in New York it was really the only way to do it. I talked to one vendor who's pricing was very reasonable- but I didn't feel a connection to her. We talked for slightly over an hour without "clicking" and I wasn't too keen on her second shooter being her less experienced husband. Another potential photographer was more experienced and within our budget, however there was too much lag time in editing and they charged for disks of images.

I finally found someone who met our requirements: second shooter, length of time shooting, right to print images, album design, and most importantly we clicked... {to be continued}

editor's note: while we have much love for Jaci - our photographer also knows how much we love her. This is just meant to be an accurate recap of our search for a photographer.

Engagement Photos {what to do?}

I've been such a bad blogger. I really need to properly tell you all about our fabulous photographer. It's coming - I promise- just not today. We are taking our engagement photos on Friday, yes that would be in two days.

We are having two outfits- one more formal and one more casual. For the more formal look Zack is wearing dark jeans with a button down shirt, tie, and vest. I'm wearing this yellow dress {sorry my head is cut off, I timed the photo and it wasn't perfect - how very myspace of me}:

So clearly you can see I'm wearing peep toe shoes. Here's my dilemma, I love dark purple nail polish. I'm sort of a junkie actually. Both of these photos are from previous entries, in March 2008 and February 2009.

Do you think it's to dark or trendy or whatever for engagement photos? Am I insane for even questioning what color of nail polish to wear? Everything else has been so easy breezy but this I'm struggling with!

Doesn't this just remind you of our venue?

Save The Date {Trial and Error II}

So I decided I don't want to use the phrase "bookmark the date" instead I'm going with the more traditional "save the date". We are taking our engagement photos on Friday and I'm hoping to get a great vertical shot we can incorporate into them.

Also, please ignore the ridiculous heart. I quickly drew it free hand for the drafts as I'm obviously still completely undecided about what we're doing. Other than it will be a bookmark the rest is TBD.

Secrets Secrets Are No Fun

Lately I've been having some serious issues with jealousy, particularly with the dress. Like most of you I'm subscribed to hundreds of wedding blogs and spend countless hours each day reading them. So many 2010 brides have started popping up. Which is so excited because for awhile I felt like I was the only one out there. There were very few of us when I started keeping this blog in January 2008!

Now all of these new 2010 brides are starting to go dress shopping. They are posting pictures of the dresses they almost bought or did buy and I'm jealous. I want to show all of you my dress so you can love it right with me. When I showed my DOC* my dress she sent me the sweetest email back raving about her love for my dress. Despite how great that made me feel, I've promised myself I would not blog about things I want to be a surprise. I love you all oh so very much and want you to see my dress when I post pictures from our lovely photographer*  on the big day!
Are you keeping any elements of your wedding a secret or are you telling the world about everything?

*Yes, I've booked them. But they deserve entire posts so more on this later.

Save The Date {Another Update}

Another sneak peak into our save the dates.
I've been working with a non profit organization in the city to collect classic romance novels.
But they've sort of started to take over our apartment.
NYC apartments and wedding DIY don't mix very well.
Oh and we are now only 11 months from our May 2010 Wedding... ahhh.

A Wedding Channel

Oh my goodness.
Cablevision has just signed on for a TV channel with 24/7  wedding programming. Shows like Bridezillas and Amazing Cakes will be featured. I know I love watching Bridezillas mainly because I've seen such bad behavior in other brides. Seeing things like planning your own bachelorette party or making bridesmaids gain /lose weight actually happens in real life - not just on this outrageous TV show.

Anyway, I envision the channel being perfect for rainy Saturdays or late nights when your fiancé is watching some ridiculous show you can't stand like 24. We don't have a second TV so it wouldn't apply to us in our itty bitty NYC apartment. The network hasn't confirmed a launch date so it might not launch before our May 2010 Wedding.
